Council To Acquire Shanganagh Castle
October 5, 2006 on 4:32 pm | In Amenities, Community, Local, News | No Comments“Shanganagh Castle is to be acquired by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for the local community if current negotiations prove successful.” This was stated by Cllr. Eugene Regan, Cathaoirleach of the Council and general election candidate (FG), who has written to the Minister for Justice Michael McDowell requesting he give the Council first option on purchasing the castle.
Cllr. Regan stated “that following a request which I made to the Minister for Justice Council officials were given access to the Castle to carry out an inspection. That inspection has confirmed the importance of securing this property for the community.”

Council and An Taisce at Idem on Booterstown Marsh
September 6, 2006 on 4:56 pm | In Amenities, Community, Local, News | No Comments“Cooperation between the County Council and An Taisce has helped to transform Booterstown Marsh Nature Reserve.” This was stated by Councillor Eugene Regan, Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and Fine Gael Candidate for Dun Laoghaire, speaking at the launch of the new viewing platform and islands constructed by the Council.
Cllr. Regan stated that “the islands provide a much needed roosting place for the migratory birds in the Marsh and the viewing platform or mini-park allows members of the public to now enter the heart of the Marsh to observe the rare wildlife first-hand, a rare experience in an urban setting.”
Cllr. Regan stated “it was usually the case that the Council and An Taisce were on opposing sides, but this was one development in which both parties cooperated and fully supported. The mini-park or viewing platform and the islands were constructed from materials from the Rock Road redevelopment currently taking place, “ he added.
