“Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is to spend up to €2 million on the redesign of Blackrock Park and the green spaces at Williamstown and Booterstown.” This was stated by Cllr. Eugene Regan (FG), Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, who tabled a motion last year calling for this redesign work to be undertaken by the Council.

Cllr. Regan stated that, “the work on Blackrock Park and associated green spaces forms part of a programme of activities of this Council to enhance our public parks. Major improvements have already been made in such parks as Cabinteely, Kilboggett and Sallynoggin, with the introduction of walkways, children’s playgrounds and all weather pitches.”

“The plan for Blackrock-Booterstown will be presented to the Council shortly and it is intended that it will go out to Part 8 public consultation before this Summer”, he added.

Cllr. Regan stated that, “some of the most interesting features of the proposed plan for Blackrock Park is the creation of a plaza and café at the main entrance from the village. The stage in the middle of the park will be enlarged and curved seating installed to create an amphitheatre at the lake, which will feature a programme of events organised by the Council’s Arts Office. It is also intended to creates a new modern children’s playground.”

Cllr Regan added that, “at Booterstown consideration is being given to an underground car park, an internet café and easier pedestrian access from the Dart to the park. On the Williamstown space which is regularly used for circuses it is envisaged that this will be used for a farmer’s market and will have a garden feature together with a recycling centre.”

“The objective of the overall plan is to improve the attractiveness of Blackrock Park and the other green spaces and increase their use through greater ease of access. The recent introduction of 18 car park spaces for users of Blackrock Park forms part of this overall improvement scheme for the park.” Cllr Regan concluded.
